Poems About Africa: Zulu

Amzulu Shaka Zulu Poem

Poems about Africa

ZULU

This is a poem (chant) inspired by Shaka kaSenzangakhona also known as ShakaZulu  one of the most influential Kings of the Zulu Kingdom. He reigned from about 1816–1828. During a period of worldwide colonialism, the Zulu Kingdom led by Shaka Zulu withstood imperialism. His fierceness, masculanity and military tactics are talked about to this day.

Below is a poem I created while inspired on my trip to Rio De Janeiro …I had the opportunity to speak with a friend of mine Dr. Oscar Mwaanga from Zambia. His storytelling abilities are next level. He talked about the personality characteristics of some of the men he grew up with. Many of them are members of the Zulu Tribe "amzulu". He spoke specifically about the masculinity and strength that is often a topic of discussion in his home of Zambia. So I wrote this poem! The poem is called “I am Zulu"

I AM ZULU - amzulu … Special Thanks to Dr. Oscar Mwaanga

I am Zulu
you don’t want none
I am Zulu
Colonialism no break me
I am Zulu
you cannot win
Shaka Zulu
Son of Nandi
We are Zulu
Warrior for freedom
I am Zulu
Kings of the Nation
Shaka Zulu
Enemy to State
We are Zulu
Unbreakable
We are Zulu
Sons of the Most High
I am Zulu
Great Warrior
You are Zulu
Son of Shaka
We are Zulu
Kings of the Nation
I am Zulu
Great Warrior
